Brightly decorated frescoes and carvings surviving the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Italy in 79 AD inspired Pompeii, a piece from the Archaeologia series. The palmette was both a painted and carved decorative motif. Beautiful aquas, peaches, and roses have been preserved wonderfully to illustrate the vibrancy of the Roman people.
