Dating to approximately 1600-1450 BC, the Palace of Minos at Knossos on the island of Crete is richly decorated with paintings and mosaics. The queen's rooms are painted in a marine motif. Dolphins and other fish abound. The motif of a 12-petal flower lines doorways and niches. Queen's Flower is an installation of the Archaeologiaseries. Similarly a 10-petal flower (Flora Triadha) borders scenes painted on a sarcophagus at Agia Triadha, Crete. |
