Corsica has a fascinating Neolithic period in its development. Huge statue-menhirs (upright monoliths as much as 10 feet tall) carved into the semblance of warriors dot the island. Although most of the statue-menhirs wear helmets, it is the variety of weapons that are illustrated in the Archaeologia series. Here is a warrior with a Sword held vertically down his body; the actual statue-menhir is identified as Filitosa 6. |
